Angela (Co-Owner)
Angela started one of the first organic delivery businesses in Toronto, Front Door Organics, which she successfully ran for 19 years before deciding to team up with Fresh City. In 2014 she and partner JJ finally made the leap to retail, roping Front Door Organics employee and Mushroom Maven Amy into opening Raise the Root in their Leslieville Neighbourhood.
As CFO, Angela puts her savvy business skills to work tallying up the numbers, ensuring staff are paid on time, and that the books are in the black. But it's not all number crunching and bean counting, Angela's passion for local food and organic producers has never faded... and she makes a mean wild mushroom risotto!
JJ (Co-Owner)
JJ grew up helping her brother run his campground in Tobermory, where she gained many handyperson skills and a great love of the outdoors. When she was a kid, she loved to get dirty and fix stuff. Not much has changed. When JJ isn’t doing the ordering, training the staff and putting out small fires at Raise the Root, she can be found covered in sawdust from her latest woodworking project, biking to Leslie Spit, or, best of all, camping in Tobermory. She agrees that Angela makes a mean wild mushroom risotto.
